In the right situations, these shots feel incredibly consistent. During our testing, some of them were effective enough to score around 8 out of 10 attempts when the positioning and power were right.
Here is how to use them.
1. Near-Post Shots Are Extremely Effective
One of the easiest ways to score in FC 27 is surprisingly simple: shoot at the goalkeeper's near post.
Normally, many players automatically aim across goal when they enter the penalty area. In FC 27, however, the near-post finish can be extremely difficult for goalkeepers to stop.
It works particularly well in two situations:
• when your attacker gets into the penalty area;
• when you break through and go one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
• Instead of automatically aiming for the far corner, try targeting the near post.
How Much Power Should You Use?
Shot power is important.
From our experience, around 2–3 bars of power works best in most situations.
Too little power can make the finish easy for the goalkeeper, while overpowering the shot increases the chance of sending it wide or over the bar.
The key is finding the right combination of angle and power.
Low Driven Shots Make It Even Better
The near-post finish becomes even more dangerous when combined with a Low Driven Shot.
To perform one, press the shoot button twice.
These shots stay low and travel quickly toward goal, giving the goalkeeper very little time to react.
The basic sequence is simple:
• Get inside the box → aim near post → use around 2–3 bars of power → trigger the Low Driven finish.
Once you learn the correct angles, this can become one of the most reliable ways to finish one-on-one situations in FC 27.
When Should You Use the Near-Post Finish?
Don't try to force it from every position.
The technique is most effective when you have created enough space to shoot and your attacker has a relatively clean angle toward the near post.
If a defender is directly blocking the shooting lane, looking for another option is usually better.
But when you are clean through on goal, the near-post finish should absolutely be one of the options you consider.
2. Power Shots From Distance Are Seriously Dangerous
The second shooting technique you need to learn is the Power Shot.
Long-range Power Shots can be incredibly effective in FC 27, especially when opponents defend deep and leave space just outside their penalty area.
The ideal position is roughly 5–10 metres outside the box.
From there, find enough space for your midfielder to prepare the shot and use:
• L1 + R1 + Shoot
• Aim for approximately 2–3 bars of power.
If you get the positioning right, these shots can fly toward goal with enormous speed and become extremely difficult for the goalkeeper to deal with.
Positioning Is Everything
Power Shots are not simply about pressing L1 + R1 and shooting whenever you receive the ball.
You need space.
If an opponent is already closing you down, the animation can give the defender enough time to block the attempt.
Instead, look for situations where your midfielder receives the ball outside the box with several metres of free space.
The sweet spot we have found is around 5–10 metres from the edge of the penalty area.
This gives you enough distance to generate a dangerous long-range attempt without shooting from an unnecessarily difficult position.
Use Players With Power Shot+
The technique becomes even more dangerous when the player has the Power Shot+ PlayStyle.
Two midfielders we particularly like for this are:
Guarín
Guarín is an excellent option if you want to build your midfield around long-range shooting.
Get him into space outside the penalty area, create the shooting angle and don't be afraid to try a Power Shot when the opponent refuses to step out.
Valverde
Valverde is another midfielder who can become extremely dangerous from these positions.
His ability to operate in midfield means he naturally gets opportunities around the edge of the box, exactly where you want to attempt these shots.
With enough space, he can punish opponents who sit too deep and focus entirely on protecting the penalty area.
Why Power Shots Are So Useful
The biggest advantage isn't just the possibility of scoring from distance.
They also force your opponent to change the way they defend.
If your opponent knows that you are willing to shoot from outside the box, they can no longer simply sit deep and wait for you to enter the penalty area.
They have to step toward your midfielder.
And once they do that, additional space can appear behind their midfield and defensive lines.
That means the Power Shot can become both a scoring weapon and a way of forcing your opponent out of position. Inside the penalty area:Look for the near-post finish and consider using a Low Driven Shot.

5–10 metres outside the box:Look for a Power Shot if you have enough space.
Against opponents defending very deep:Use Power Shots to force them to step forward and close you down.
The biggest mistake is trying to use the same finish in every situation.
Learning when to use each technique is more important than simply learning the button combination.
