FC 27 Beta gameplay review graphic showing lobbed passes, analog sprint, low driven shots, off-balance dribbling and manual defending.

Quick Answer

After 10 days of playing the FC 27 Beta, the biggest impression is simple: the game really feels different.

Not everything is perfect. Lobbed through balls are too strong, kick-offs feel even more broken, finesse shots have been heavily nerfed, and manual runs now stop after a few seconds. But despite all of that, the game feels fresh.

The most important gameplay takeaways are:

• lobbed passes are currently the strongest attacking mechanic;

• pace feels more dangerous than in FC 26;

• low driven shots are much more reliable than finesse shots;

• analog sprint feels extremely powerful with the right players;

• off-balance dribbling could become a very dangerous mechanic;

• manual defending feels more rewarding;

• AI defending feels weaker;

• full-backs need more manual control;

• kick-off defending is a huge problem;

• Lengthy does not feel as dominant as expected;

• Rapid, Low Driven Shot and Pinged Pass could be key early PlayStyles.

If the release version is close to the Beta but EA nerfs lobbed passes and kick-off abuse, FC 27 could be a very strong game.

Beta Rating: 8.5/10

FC 27 Actually Feels Different

Finally, I had a good dream: I played the FC 27 Beta for 10 full days and found a lot of interesting gameplay details.

The global feeling is that FC 27 is not just FC 26 with a new menu.

A lot of familiar things from FC 26 did not work the same way anymore. At the same time, some ideas from FC 24 and FC 25 suddenly felt alive again.

That is probably the most interesting part.

The game feels like EA tried to move away from some of the FC 26 patterns and bring back more direct attacking, more manual defending and more player-controlled moments.

EA’s official gameplay deep dive also confirms the general direction: reduced AI defending impact, stronger manual defending, smarter attacking movement, more controlled corners and crosses, limited manually triggered runs, and off-balance dribbling are all part of the FC 27 gameplay direction.

And after playing the Beta, that direction is very noticeable.

Overall Gameplay Impression

Overall, I liked the game more than I disliked it.

Yes, there are broken lobbed passes.

Yes, EA somehow managed to make kick-offs even more broken.

Yes, finesse shots from outside the box barely fly properly.

Yes, the usual L1 runs have been completely reworked. If you send a player on a run with L1, he will usually stop after 2–3 seconds.

But even with all these problems, something about the game feels exciting.

It feels like FC 27 has more personality than FC 26.

There are more ways to attack.There is more reward for aggressive defending.There is more danger from pace.There is more value in timing and player movement.

If EA fixes the most broken parts before launch, this could be one of the better starts to an FC cycle.

Attack in FC 27: Lobbed Passes Are the Biggest Problem

The strongest attacking mechanic in the Beta is clearly the lobbed pass.

It is not even close.

Playing with two strikers, I quickly realized that even the “slow and heavy” striker style from FC 24 works perfectly here. Haaland was constantly winning aerial duels against Van Dijk, Saliba, Van de Ven and other top center-backs.

That alone tells you how strong this mechanic is.

If Haaland, Mbappé or Dembélé receives a clean lobbed ball behind the defensive line, it is often a guaranteed one-on-one chance.

This mechanic is too strong right now.

I expect EA to nerf it before release, because if lobbed passes stay like this, early FC 27 gameplay could become very repetitive.

Finesse Shots Are Heavily Nerfed

Finesse shots feel very weak in the Beta.

They still can be scored, but they are nowhere near as reliable as before.

The main issue is that the ball feels too slow after a finesse shot. It almost feels like the animation and ball speed are not fully connected.

Maybe it is a bug.

But honestly, after 10 days of Beta, if it was a clear bug, I would expect it to be fixed already.

So it may simply be the new balance.

Right now, low driven shots are much stronger and much more reliable.

If this remains the same at launch, the early finishing meta will probably be built around low driven shots, not finesse spam.

Dribbling Feels Better

Turning with players feels more pleasant.

There seems to be slightly more control when moving in tight areas.

This may be because of the Beta environment and lower server load, so we should not overreact too much.

But still, the feeling was good.

Players responded better than expected, especially when using agile cards or players with strong acceleration.

The game seems to reward sharper movement more than FC 26 did.

And that matters because pace and analog sprint are very strong this year.

Classic Sprint Boost Still Works

The classic sprint boost with L1 + holding R2 still works well.

But it works best with the right type of player.

This is not something you can abuse equally with everyone.

Players with good acceleration, strong body type and useful PlayStyles benefit much more.

This is important because early starter squads may not only depend on raw pace, but also on how that pace activates in real gameplay.

Some cards will feel much faster than their stats suggest.

Others may have pace on paper but feel less explosive in practice.

Stepovers Give a Good Boost Again

Stepovers also give a good boost, especially with long-legged players.

This is one of those mechanics that feels familiar but useful.

It is not completely broken by itself, but in combination with strong pace, analog sprint and off-balance dribbling, it can become very effective.

Expect good players to use stepovers early in FC 27, especially on the wings and in transition.

Analog Sprint Is Insane

Analog sprint might be one of the best mechanics to learn before FC 27 fully launches.

With the right player, especially someone with Rapid, analog sprint feels amazing.

With gold Rapid, you can literally run past defenders like they are standing still.

This was one of the strongest feelings I had in the Beta.

If you do not know how to use analog sprint properly yet, learning it now could be one of the best things you can do before FC 27.

It gives you better control, stronger acceleration and more freedom in one-on-one situations.

And when combined with off-balance dribbling, it becomes even scarier.

Corners Have Been Reworked — But They Feel Bad

Corners have been reworked, but honestly, I did not like them.

EA’s official notes explain that FC 27 corners give players more manual control before the ball is delivered, including movement inside the box and more influence over positioning.

In theory, that sounds good.

In practice, the most effective method in the Beta was simple: play short to the nearby player, especially someone with gold Rapid, then run down the wing and beat half the opponent’s team.

That was much more effective than actually using the new corner system.

So right now, corners feel like a good idea with weak execution.

Maybe players will discover stronger corner routines later.

But during the Beta, short corners were clearly the safest option.

Attacking Runs Are Smarter, But Manual Runs Are Limited

One of the most interesting things in FC 27 is that attacking players can actually make unexpected, well-timed runs into dangerous zones.

Sometimes the run is so surprising that you miss the pass because you did not expect your player to move that well.

That is a good sign.

It means attacking AI feels more alive.

At the same time, manual runs have changed a lot. EA officially says manually triggered runs in FC 27 no longer continue forever; they are limited in distance, and players stop or return to position after that.

You can really feel that in-game.

If you trigger a player with L1, he usually stops after 2–3 seconds.

This makes attacking more deliberate, but it also means the old FC 26 habits will not always work.

You need to trigger runs more carefully and at the right time.

The Great Purple Pass Is Dead

The famous “great purple pass” is basically dead.

The move where the player rolls the ball back and passes sideways now feels extremely slow.

The animation feels like it is playing at 0.3 speed.

It is too slow to be reliable.

Maybe someone will still find a use for it, but from the Beta experience, this mechanic has been heavily nerfed.

Defense in FC 27: Manual Tackles Feel Rewarding

Defending feels more manual and more aggressive.

When you fly into an opponent and time the tackle properly, the game registers it very confidently.

If you hit the ball, it usually stays with you.

That is a very good change.

Aggressive defending feels rewarded.

EA’s official gameplay notes also match this direction: AI defending has been reduced, while manual defending actions like positioning, switching and timed tackles are supposed to matter more.

This is one of the best parts of the Beta.

Defending is not easy, but when you defend well manually, the game often rewards you.

That is exactly how it should be.

Team Pressing Is Still Meta

Team pressing is still very strong.

Especially during kick-offs and settled attacks, team press remains a major part of the defensive meta.

This is not surprising.

Every year, pressing is either broken, annoying or both.

In FC 27 Beta, pressing still feels like something players will abuse.

The difference is that because manual defending is more important, pressing alone may not be enough against good players.

You still need to switch manually, track runs and defend dangerous spaces yourself.

Full-Back and Center-Back Zones Are Dangerous

One of the biggest defensive problems is the space between full-backs and center-backs.

You need to watch this zone very carefully.

Opponent wingers seem smarter.

Your full-backs, unfortunately, seem dumber.

That means you often need to manually drag your full-back into position.

If you leave him alone, the winger can attack the gap, receive a ball behind the line and create a dangerous chance.

This is especially dangerous because lobbed passes are so strong.

If you do not cover the full-back/center-back gap early, you may be punished immediately.

Kick-Off Defending Is a Huge Problem

Kick-offs are very hard to defend.

EA somehow made them feel even more dangerous.

The main issue is defensive depth.

When the opponent controls the ball around 45 meters from goal, your defensive line often drops extremely deep, almost into the box, while your midfield stays closer to the ball.

This creates a massive space between the midfield and defense.

That space is extremely hard to defend.

Yes, spamming the offside trap can help.

But that should not be the main solution.

Kick-off defending needs work before release, because right now it feels too easy to create chaos immediately after conceding or scoring.

Off-Balance Dribbling Could Be Dangerous

Off-balance dribbling is one of the most important new mechanics.

EA describes it as a system that allows top dribblers to keep moving and maintain control after contact, using balance, agility and dribbling stats. During the animation, the player may look like he is stumbling, but you still keep control and continue moving.

And yes — this mechanic is dangerous.

There were many situations where my player was basically killed from behind by a Bruiser-style physical challenge, but he stayed on his feet and continued moving.

There was no real moment where the player became uncontrollable.

The animation looked strange for 2–3 steps, but it was too fast and too effective.

In some moments, it felt too strong.

When you combine off-balance dribbling with analog sprint, you get a very powerful movement package.

That may be one of the reasons analog sprint felt so good in the Beta.

I am almost sure EA will nerf either this animation or analog sprint before release.

Haaland Physically Bullied Center-Backs

There were also some funny physical situations.

Opponent center-backs tried to push Haaland, but they were the ones who flew away.

And I am not exaggerating.

In shoulder-to-shoulder duels, sometimes the defender bounced off the striker instead of the other way around.

This barely happened in FC 26 in the same way.

Of course, physical players should feel strong.

But if Haaland keeps winning these situations too easily, he could become a nightmare at launch — especially with how strong lobbed passes are right now.

Pace Is Back in a Big Way

Pace is extremely important in FC 27 Beta.

I had basically zero situations where Mbappé ran in behind and then got caught by Saliba or Van Dijk.

If Mbappé was gone, he was gone.

That feels very different from some FC 26 situations where center-backs could recover too easily.

This is also why lobbed passes feel so strong.

If Haaland, Mbappé or Dembélé gets a good ball behind the defense and you did not cover the run early, it is usually a guaranteed one-on-one.

To be fair, fast full-backs like Hakimi or Nuno Mendes could sometimes recover, especially if Mbappé had a slightly awkward first touch.

But that makes sense.

They have elite pace too.

The bigger point is this: fast attackers finally feel fast again.

Is Lengthy Overpowered?

Surprisingly, no.

Lengthy did not feel overpowered to me, especially on wide attackers and wingers.

The problem is that Lengthy needs time to accelerate.

In FC 27, manual runs are limited and players stop after a short distance. Because of that, Lengthy players do not always get enough time to build speed.

From a standing start, they feel slower.

Sprint boosts also seem connected to acceleration type. If a player starts slowly, the sprint boost feels worse too.

I cannot say this with 100% certainty, but that is how it felt.

In attack, Mbappé and Nuno Mendes on the wing felt much more effective than Salma-style Lengthy runners.

Even at full-back, I did not notice Lengthy being especially useful.

Raw pace seemed more important.

Early FC 27 Meta Prediction

Based on this Beta “dream,” the early FC 27 meta could be built around:

• fast players;

• attackers with some physical presence;

• Rapid;

• Low Driven Shot;

• Pinged Pass;

• good acceleration;

• strong analog sprint movement;

• players who can receive lobbed passes behind the line;

• defenders with pace and manual tackling ability.

If the release version stays close to the Beta, the best starter cards may not simply be the highest-rated players.

The best cards will be the ones that combine pace, body type, useful PlayStyles and strong movement.

That is why full player database leaks will be very important.

Once we get the full base player database with PlayStyles, it will be much easier to build interesting cheap starter squads.

The Game Reminds Me of EA FC 25 Launch

The current Beta reminds me a lot of the EA FC 25 launch.

At the start of FC 25, the game had more identity and more sharpness.

But EA quickly closed that window and moved toward “easier” gameplay.

I really hope they do not do the same thing this year.

If FC 27 launches close to the Beta version, but with fixes to lobbed passes and kick-off abuse, this could be a very good game.

A game where you can play short passing.A game where you can dribble.A game where you can cross.A game where pace matters.A game where defending is difficult but rewarding.

That sounds like a healthy football game.

Now EA just needs not to ruin it too early.

Final Verdict

FC 27 Beta surprised me.

I expected problems, and there are definitely problems.

Lobbed passes are too strong.Kick-offs are too broken.Finesse shots feel almost dead.Corners are not convincing yet.Manual runs need time to understand.Off-balance dribbling could become too strong.

But despite all of that, the game feels promising.

It feels different from FC 26.It feels faster in the right areas.It rewards manual defending more.It makes pace dangerous again.It gives attackers smarter movement.It brings back some old mechanics that actually feel fun.

If EA fixes the biggest broken mechanics before release, FC 27 could be a strong game.

Frequently Asked Questions About FC 27 Beta Gameplay

FC 27 Beta gameplay FAQ graphic answering questions about lobbed passes, finesse shots, analog sprint, defending, Lengthy and early meta.

Is FC 27 gameplay different from FC 26?

Yes, based on the Beta impressions, FC 27 feels noticeably different. Many FC 26 habits do not work the same way, especially manual runs, defending and certain attacking mechanics.

What is the strongest attacking mechanic in FC 27 Beta?

Lobbed passes feel like the strongest attacking mechanic right now. They are especially dangerous with fast or physical strikers.

Are finesse shots still good in FC 27?

Finesse shots feel heavily nerfed. They can still go in, but low driven shots are much more reliable in the Beta.

Is analog sprint strong in FC 27?

Yes. Analog sprint feels extremely strong, especially with players who have Rapid or strong acceleration.

Are corners better in FC 27?

Corners have been reworked, but in the Beta they did not feel very convincing. Short corners with fast players were often more effective.

Is defending harder in FC 27?

Yes, defending feels harder because AI defending is weaker and manual defending matters more. However, good manual tackles feel more rewarding.

Is off-balance dribbling overpowered?

It might be. The mechanic allows strong dribblers to keep control after contact, and in the Beta it sometimes felt too effective.

Is Lengthy meta in FC 27?

Not really, at least from the Beta impression. Lengthy players need time to accelerate, and wide players with strong raw pace felt more effective.

What PlayStyles could be meta at launch?

Rapid, Low Driven Shot and Pinged Pass could be very important early in FC 27.

What rating does the Beta deserve?

Based on these impressions, FC 27 Beta deserves around 8.5/10.
